Thousands turn out to congratulate Wildcats on CWS victory

TUCSON - An estimated 5,100 screaming fans welcomed the UA Wildcats Baseball Team home to Tucson after a clean sweep win in the College World Series in Omaha.

The National Championship team arrived at McKale Center shortly after 1 p.m., and walked down the red carpet into the stadium where highlights of the Wildcats' incredible path to victory were played on the big screen.

Among those who congratulated the Cats and spoke at the event were UA President Eugene Sander, UA Athletics Director Greg Byrne, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Wildcats coach Andy Lopez.

Several team members also got to thank the fans for their support, and show of the NCAA trophy.

Organizers noted that official t-shirts and other National Championship memorabilia will be available at the official bookstores on the UA campus beginning at noon tomorrow.
