SAN FRANCISCO - Giants fans are gathering in downtown San Francisco to celebrate their team's World Series championship.

Some 2,000 fans assembled to watch the game on a Jumbroton a park across from City Hall, but the crowd grew in numbers and volume throughout the night.

The crowd exploded in a roar with the final out as the Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers, sweeping the series.

10-year-old Anthony Yos and his 15-year-old brother Luciano danced in an embrace with their parents.

Someone in the crowd launched fireworks a few minutes after the game and the park was awash with revelers, strangers hugging strangers and wine bottles and marijuana cigarettes being freely passed through the crowd despite a heavy police presence.

In one of the most dominating Fall Classic performances, the San Francisco Giants swept the Detroit Tigers for their second World Series title in three years. It's their seventh title in franchise history.

Marco Scutaro (SKOO'-tah-row) delivered the big hit, a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning to drive in Ryan Theriot (TEHR'-ee-oh) with the winning run in the Giants' 4-3 win over the Tigers. That was the Giants' sixth straight win in the postseason. Buster Posey added a two-run home run in the sixth.

But the Giants did it with pitching. Giants pitchers posted a 1.46 earned run average, the 12th-lowest ERA in World Series history.

After throwing back-to-back shutouts in Games 2 and 3, the Giants got another clutch pitching performance. Matt Cain held the Tigers to three runs over seven innings. Three relievers delivered three hitless innings of relief. The Tigers got only five hits -- none after the sixth inning.

Closer Sergio Romo closed out the victory by striking out the side in the ninth for his third series save. When he fanned Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera to end it, the Giants broke into a wild celebration at the center of the Comerica Park diamond.

Pablo Sandoval, who hit three home runs in Game 1, was named World Series MVP. Sandoval batted .500 for the series, and drove in four runs. Sandoval had 8 hits in 16 at-bats in the 108th Fall Classic.
