The Polar Express: Cold & snow heading toward southern Arizona

TUCSON - A taste of the frozen tundra in the desert southwest

According to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish, a powerful cold front will approach from the Four Corners today. Snow showers should develop later this afternoon along the Mogollon Rim, moving into eastern Cochise, Graham and Greenlee Counties overnight.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the White Mountains of Graham & Greenlee County, in effect from 5 PM tonight until 11 AM tomorrow. 5-8" snow is possible for these areas, with valley floors east of Benson & Sierra Vista seeing a dusting of snow by Friday morning.

Along with the snow comes a big chill. By daybreak Friday, Tucson and most of southern Arizona will wake up to freezing temperatures. The Old Pueblo should drop to the low 30's tonight, with 20's east of the metro. Freezing temperatures are also expected Saturday morning and Christmas morning.

Christmas weekend looks blustery and cool, with highs in the 50's under sunny skies.

Jeff will have your up-to-date Christmas forecast today on News 4 Tucson at Noon.
