TUCSON - The Monsoon looks to make some noise for the holiday.
Enough moisture over southern Arizona will develop thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. The best chance of storms today should be south of an Ajo-Tombstone line, with storms more hit and miss for the Tucson metro. Expect storms to start developing around 1 PM and taper off after 10 PM.
Today's Monsoon Prediction Index is at 4 out of 10, indicating a moderate risk for storms to produce gusty winds over 40 MPH and locally heavy rainfall.
High pressure over eastern New Mexico continues drawing in moisture as the week goes on. This moisture interacts with an inverted trough moving north from Sonora, triggering a better chance of storms area-wide starting tomorrow. Scattered thunderstorms are possible Tuesday through Thursday, with some storms turning severe. Storm chances decrease by late week as the Monsoon may start shutting down for good.
Daytime highs the next few days range from the upper 90's this afternoon to the low 90's mid to late week.
