TUCSON - Tucson Fire Department looking into what caused an early morning carport fire. Firefighters responded the scene at 5:20 a.m. in midtown this morning.
It happened near Columbus Boulevard and 7th Street. A jogger was the first to notice the fire, and knocked on the door. The owners woke up and realized the smoke was coming from their neighbor's carport. They alerted the neighbor - one person was in the home and managed to get out.
Firefighters checked the home twice to make sure no one else was inside. They were able to contain the flames in 17 minutes, preventing it from spreading. A vehicle in the carport was threatened. Damage is estimated at 70,000.
