Syria debate splits Ariz. Congressional delegation

PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona's congressional delegation is split on whether to support President Barack Obama's request to authorize the use of force in Syria, although many members say they're still undecided.

An Associated Press canvass of the state's nine representatives found five were uncommitted and three either against or learning against military action against Syria because of an alleged chemical weapons attack on civilians. Republican Rep. Trent Franks couldn't immediately be reached Tuesday.

Republican Sen. John McCain is tentatively backing Obama, while GOP Sen. Jeff Flake says he's still listening to the administration.

Republican Rep. David Schweikert's spokeswoman says he's leaning toward no, as is GOP Rep. Paul Gosar. Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva says he's also a no vote. He says Syria is "a quagmire I think we need to avoid."
