TUCSON - A hostage situation Friday morning has left 31-year-old Jared Ross dead and a house partially burned.
It all started when a woman called 911 at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday with reports that her ex-boyfriend was threatening to burn the house he was in at the time down, Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman Tom Peine said.
The man then lit his northwest side home-- near Warbler and Bald Eagle-- on fire. Northwest firefighters responded but the fire burned out on its own, Peine said.
At some point another woman who claimed to be the man's current girlfriend showed up to the scene and alerted deputies to him being armed. She claimed Ross threatened and tried to restrain her but she was able to get away.
They sent in a robot to assess the situation and found the man dead in the garage, Peine said.
