SWAT situation ends peacefully

TUCSON - A wanted man is now in police custody after a lengthy standoff with Tucson Police officers and members of SWAT Tuesday afternoon.

Gilbert Cota, 34, had a felony warrant out for his arrest, Tucson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Pete Dugan said.

Officers located Cota inside of a unit at El Conquistador Apartments, 1881 E. Irvington Road, at approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dugan added. He refused to surrender.

Officers negotiated with him until approximately 4:30 p.m. before he surrendered, Dugan said. Cota was then taken to a local hospital due to a medical issue.

No other details were immediately available.

News 4 Tucson has a crew at the scene and will provide more information as it becomes available.
