MARANA - A device found outside a Marana apartment complex this morning was made to look like a pipe bomb, but is an apparent hoax, law enforcement officials say.
Marana Police say one of the residents at The Springs apartment complex off Cortaro Road spotted the suspicious object this morning while walking his dog.
Police officers, fire department personnel and the Pima Regional Bomb Squad were brought in. Several neighbors were evacuated from their apartments and some buildings were taped off.
The bomb squad determined that the object was not a viable threat, but a hoax made to look like an explosive with wires, batteries and containers.
Police say this is a felony and they will begin an investigation into who was behind this.
