BUCKEYE - A suspected Walmart shoplifter taken down by police is now suing the city for half a million dollars.
Jerald Newman's lawyer claims police used excessive force during the November 23, 2011 incident which was captured on cell phone video. Attorney Todd Nolan has now filed a $500,000 lawsuit against the city of Buckeye and the Buckeye Police Department.
That video was then shown on news stations across Arizona and the country: A bleeding Newman, face-down on the floor of a Buckeye Walmart and restrained by police officers.
Shoplifting charges against Newman were never filed.
Buckeye Police decline to comment.
