Suspect in child abduction turns self in

The following is a release from the Pima County Sheriff's Department:

Tuesday, Luis Ernesto Soberanes, 24, took a 2-year-old boy forcefully from his guardian and
disappeared with the child for several hours.

The 2-year-old is Soberanes' biological son; however, the mother of the boy has sole custody over him and left him in the care of his stepfather yesterday.

After extensive news coverage yesterday, the suspect contacted detectives and revealed the boy's location.

The boy was found safe and was reunited with his mother.

Wednesday morning, Soberanes once again contacted detectives with the Sheriff's Domestic Violence
Unit and arranged to meet with them. At approximately 12:08 p.m., Soberanes was taken into
custody and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center. He was booked on one count
of Domestic Violence - Kidnapping, one count of Custodial Interference and one count of Third
Degree Burglary.

The investigation continues.
