TUCSON - Police have arrested a man believed to be responsible for a string of sexually-motivated burglaries in the UA area.
Barbaro Tamayo, 49, was arrested at his residence for one count of attempted sexual assault Tuesday, according to TPD spokesperson Sgt. Matt Ronstadt.
Over the last month, the area between Speedway Boulevard to Broadway Boulevard and Campbell Road to Stone Avenue has been hit by a series of six burglaries, all targeting single women living alone, according to Sgt. Ronstadt.
The suspect entered the homes between the hours of midnight and 4 a.m., while the victims were at home and asleep. According to Sgt. Ronstadt, the suspect was very aggressive and violent when confronted by the victims.
Evidence obtained during the investigation linked Tamayo to at least one of the cases. Within two hours of the arrest warrant being issues, TPD, with assistance from several other agencies, took Tamayo into custody without incident.
TPD officers were assisted by detectives assigned to the Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit, the United States Marshal's Service, Pima County Sheriffs Department Fugitive Investigations Strike Team, and the Tucson Police Department Adult Sexual Assault Detail in locating and detaining Tamayo at his residence.
