TUCSON - Two Tucson High students are determined to make a difference for their generation.
Robin Soliz and Zoe Warren joined the "Every Voice in Action Foundation" and they hope to inspire more teens to take initiative in their community.
The two looked for a summer job and video project called, "Tucson Through the Eyes of Youth," caught their attention. The video documents the feelings of over 60 youth in Tucson.
Warren said, "We learned a lot about video equipment and we also learned a lot about what kids were missing or teenagers were missing or what they felt was lacking in their community." Warren said many teens they interviewed are disappointed in public transportation."
Soliz is happy to give her peers an outlet to express their concerns. "I was really excited just because it was a pilot program so we really influenced where it was going and what the outcome was going to be. So we got to put our voice in there and just do what we wanted and produce what we wanted to see."
The documentary was presented in front of the Tucson City Council who awarded them a $15,000 grant.
Soliz said, "They were all really impressed by the video and they thought it was a really good project that we had done. They all spoke how they wanted to have further dialogue and further action."
After the project and summer were over Soliz and Warren were left longing for more. So after school they can be found at the Every Voice in Action office, brewing up new ways for teens to become involved in the community.
Soliz said, "I hope that it will inspire other kids and also give them the skills and the opportunities to find not only what their passionate about but ways they can actually do that in the community and to have access to the things they need."
"Tucson Through the Eyes of Youth" received $13,000 in grant money from the state and $2,000 from Tucson's Ward 3.
