TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona State University student was found brutally beaten and covered in blood in an elevator in an off-campus apartment complex, and Tempe police are investigating whether fraternities are involved.
Residents found the young man about 1 a.m. Monday, and one person was arrested in the case Tuesday night.
Police Sgt. Mike Pooley says the victim didn't remember what happened but that witnesses told investigators that that they believed the victim and the person arrested are from rival fraternities.
Identities have not been released.
Student Katie Chiodo says she and friends found the beaten man. She says his eyes were swollen shut and he was curled up on the floor in a ball.
Detectives say they plan to use surveillance video to help identify other suspects.
