Streetcar celebrations kick-off

TUCSON-The Tucson Modern Streetcar is officially open to the public and the best part is it's free for the next three days.

Celebrations began at 7 a.m. with ribbon cuttings along the 4-mile route that connects all five downtown districts. The final ribbon cutting was at Congress and 5th Avenue. The streetcar drove through the last ribbon to officially kick-off the ceremony. According to State Senator Steve Farley, the launch was a great success for Tucson.

"You go around downtown three or four years ago and compared to today the transformation is amazing," Sen. Farley said. "It's a transformation for us as a community and how we think about ourselves. We can do this. The rest of the country is looking up to Tucson because we did this together."

On Monday rider will have to pay $1.50 for one-way trips or $4 for a full day pass.
