Stranger danger warning at two Marana schools

MARANA - A letter and email has been sent to parents of students at two Marana schools after a suspicious vehicle was seen at a bus stop.

The letter/email was sent to Roadrunner Elementary School parents and to Marana Middle School parents.

The letter/email reads:

Dear Marana Middle School Parents and Family,

The safety of our students is our number one concern. I want to make you aware of suspicious behavior which occurred in our community at approximately 8:00am this morning. A vehicle was seen driving by one of our school bus stops located at North Blacktail Road and West El Camino De Tres Arroyos. The vehicle stopped, opened the front driver's side door and backed up after passing the bus stop. The driver did not communicate with the student at the bus stop. The Pima County Sheriff's Department was notified and a report filed.

The driver of the vehicle is described as a darker skinned male, bald, wearing jeans and a black shirt. The vehicle has been described as a white SUV, raised or lifted with bigger tires.

If you know anything about this, or recognize the suspect's description, please contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900 or 88-CRIME.

As always, we are committed to our students, staff and our community at large and respectfully request you to continue to assist us. Often our parents and community members can be our best eyes and ears in the protection of our students and our neighborhood. Also, during your conversations with your child, please continue to emphasize the importance of being aware of surroundings, being watchful of each other, walking together in groups, not talking to strangers, and reporting any concerns to an adult or authority.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department if you have any additional information regarding this incident or other safety concerns.

Thank you,

Kristin Reidy
Principal
