TUCSON - The storm that swept across Tucson Monday evening caused some major damage to certain areas of town.
Rita Ranch and Avra Valley were hit with 60 mph winds, News 4 meteorologist Jeff Beamish said.
The microbursts snapped 34 power poles in Avra Valley and knocked out power to customers in the area, Trico reported. All "except a handful" of people have since had their power restored.
The storm prompted road closures in Avra Valley. The following are closed as of noon Tuesday:
In Rita Ranch, high winds tore up landscaping, breaking tree limbs and uprooting entire mesquites.
Mt. Lemmon received an unusual amount of rain. Four inches poured down, prompting Flash Flood Warnings for the mountain. The "upslope flow" of air from the Santa Catalinas squeezed more moisture from the storm as it passed over the range, Beamish said.
