TUCSON - Pima Community College students who work in the field of early childhood are eligible for tuition assistance through the state's Professional Career Pathway Project (PCPP), funded by the Arizona Department of Economic Security and First Things First.

Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, an additional $100,000 has been added to PCPP funding by the First Things First Central Pima Region to cover PCPP tuition assistance targeting early childhood staff in central Pima County. This assistance can be used for tuition for one to six ECE/CDA credits per semester (maximum 12 credits per year) and a textbook stipend of $10 per credit at the college bookstore.

Eligible students must be pursuing a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or a certificate and/or a two-year degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Studies.

In addition, a student must be working in a center-based or family-based child care program and must pass each course paid by PCPP with a grade of "C" or better. For funding provided by the FTF Central Pima Regional Council, a student must work in Central Pima County.

PCC offers an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Studies and an Associate Degree (for transfer) in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with Early Childhood concentration, as well as certificates in Basic Early Childhood Studies and Advanced Early Childhood Studies.

In addition, PCC offers a Post-Degree Certificate in Early Childhood, Birth-Age 8. This program can help Certified Elementary and Special Education teachers prepare to apply for Arizona's Early Childhood, Birth-Age 8 Endorsement.

PCC Fall Semester classes begin Aug. 25.
