Weekend Sports Anchor George Savaricas joined KVOA in November 2009 and is excited to be out West. He makes the move from WJFW the NBC-affiliate in Rhinelander, WI were he worked as the Weekend Sports Anchor for the past 2 years.
In Rhinelander, George was able to cover the Green Bay Packers along with snowmobile racing, ice fishing and barstool racing. "I realized I'd arrived as a sports anchor when I was covering the 2008 World Snowmobile Championships and it was -20 degrees out."
Prior to that George worked at KOMU in Columbia, MO as a sports reporter/producer while attending the University of Missouri. During his time in Columbia he got a taste of what it's like to cover major college athletics.
George is originally from Wilmette, IL, a suburb north of Chicago and his family now resides in nearby Evanston, IL. As a self proclaimed ‘golf nut' George couldn't be happier to be able to hit the links year round in Tucson.
‘Local sports stories are what drive our coverage' so if you've got a story idea feel free to e-mail him.
