TUCSON - The Community Food Bank opened a new community garden on the southwest side.
That neighborhood lacks options for healthy eating, according to food bank workers.
"Folks have a very difficult time when it comes to healthy choices," food bank worker Robert Ojeda said.
It is called Las Milpitas De Cottonwood Community Farm.
Residents can use free lots and the food bank provides water.
"I have peace of mind growing my own food," Anne Haefele said, "because I know it's organic. There are no chemicals. I know how it's been handled."
Students from City High School also cultivate and maintain the farm.
"It gives you a perspective of what's really happening behind what we eat," student Milton Guevara said.
