Southside manhunt for assault suspect

TUCSON - Tucson Police Department is conducting a manhunt for an armed suspect near the area of Ajo & Irvington.

According to TPD, it began at 10:53 last night when they received 9-1-1 calls from people at a carwash on Irvington and Liberty. They reported that three men with assault rifles and other weapons were outside the carwash, pointing the weapons at them.

Police officers responded to the scene and engaged the suspects in a pursuit. During the chase, the men shot at an officer's vehicle and took off on foot. The officer was unhurt.

TPD initiated a large scale search and involved SWAT and canine units and cordoned off 6th ave to 12th ave between Ajo and Michigan. The first suspect was captured within a block from where the shooting occurred, a second suspect was captured by a canine unit several hours later. He was bit by the canine, and suffered minor injuries.

The search is still underway now, for the third man. He is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches weighing 220 pounds.
