PINAL COUNTY - Casa Grande Union and Cienega were the medal leaders at the 2012 Dean Merrell Memorial FFA Field Day.
Casa Grande Union High School claimed five team awards to nip Cienega High School of Vail in the chase for the most medals at the FFA Field Day.
More than 100 students representing 14 different high schools from Pinal and Pima counties descended upon Central Arizona College's Signal Peak Campus for the event on Feb. 10.
The students, all from the FFA's South Central Arizona Region, competed in events such as Agricultural Business, Agricultural Mechanics, Agronomy, Aquaculture, Dairy Management, Entomology, Forestry, Horse Evaluation, Job Interview, Livestock Evaluation, Meats Evaluation, Nursery Operations, Range Management, Soil and Wildlife Management.
Casa Grande Union claimed the team titles in Agricultural Mechanics, Agronomy, Entomology, Meats Evaluation and Soil.
Cienega earned four first-place finishes in Aquaculture, Livestock Evaluation, Range Management and Wildlife Management.
