SIERRA VISTA - On Saturday members of the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force conducted a Sobriety Checkpoint on State Route 80 just north of Davis Road. Approximately 456 vehicles went through the checkpoint.
Two undocumented immigrant load vehicles were stopped as they came through the checkpoint and the illegal immigrants were turned over to the Border Patrol for processing. A GMC Denali was also stopped and found to be loaded with marijuana, and a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was recovered after a license plate reader used at the checkpoint alerted to it being a stolen vehicle entered by Phoenix PD. Two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence.
These checkpoints are made possible through grant funding by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and will continue throughout the year during holidays and community events.
