SOUTH TUCSON, Ariz. - A South Tucson police officer has been placed on administrative leave after he shot a man Saturday morning.
The officer responded to the area of 29th Street and 5th Avenue around 12:50am for a report of a man with a gun.
When the officer got there, he saw a person matching the description.
As the officer got out of his patrol vehicle, he saw the man clutching what appeared to be a shotgun.
The man then ran a short distance and turned and faced the officer in a threatening manner.
The officer fired his gun, striking the man multiple times.
He was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery.
Police found a shotgun at the scene.
The Pima County Sheriff's Office was contacted to conduct the investigation
Anyone with information related to this incident are urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
