Sizzle & Storms: Monsoon 2014 ramping up in 24 hours

TUCSON - Another Sonoran scorcher today, but storm chances aren't too far away.

High pressure over Yuma continues to swelter southern Arizona this afternoon, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Tucson reaches the 105-108° range for high temps today, running 4-6° above average for early July. While conditions aren't favorable for storm development, there is a slight chance of a storm in the White Mountains this afternoon.

Winds aloft shift to the southeast tomorrow & the remainder of the week, setting up our daily round of thunderstorms. Isolated storms are possible across Cochise, Graham & Greenlee Counties Wednesday. Thursday sees a chance of isolated storms for Tucson and southeastern Arizona. The 4th of July and Saturday looks to be the most active storm days, with scattered activity possible over southeastern Arizona.

Any storms that develop will be capable of producing gusty winds and a dust storm. Interstate 10 north of Marana and east of Benson are the most dust storm prone areas for holiday travel later this week.
