Six previously-closed public pools open today

TUCSON - The City of Tucson is opening six additional public pools today, and Parks and Recreation is offering a wide variety of aquatic classes and activities for kids and adults alike.

Thanks to donations made by several area businesses, six additional city pools will be open beginning today, which means there will be 16 public pools available for families to cool off in this summer.

In addition, Parks and Recreation is offering free swim lessons all summer long, thanks to a grant from the Tucson Police Department. There is a $2 registration fee for classes. To learn more about these classes and to register, click here.

Other classes and activities offer through Tucson Parks and Recreation include: water fitness classes, arthritis classes, swim and diving lessons, competitive and synchronized swim leagues. Parks and Recreation offers Junior Lifeguard/Water Safety Aid, Lifeguard Training, and Water Safety Aid classes.

While several pools have reopened, nearly a dozen city pools remain closed due to budget cuts. Parks and Recreation is giving individuals and businesses the opportunity to sponsor or "adopt" a public pool. Watch the YouTube video below and visit for more information.
