SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. - Many people may be familiar with National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, where cities work with the Drug Enforcement Agency to take back expired drugs to keep them out of the wrong hands.

But the city of Sierra Vista is opting for a more permanent solution.

The city is using med return or medication disposal boxes that are bolted to the floor and locked.

There's one placed at the Sierra Police Department lobby, and 3 others at each of the fire stations.

It's been three weeks since they started using the program and they've already collected 158 pounds of medication.

The med return collection unit has been so successful, police empty out the bin twice a week instead of their usual weekly basis.
