Sierra Vista - City and County residents can now register their cell and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone numbers to receive information in case of a local emergency.
The City of Sierra Vista has upgraded its system to accommodate residents without traditional landlines.
"Adding this capability was necessary to ensure accurate and timely information for residents' safety as more people are dropping their landline and using cell or VoIP phones as their only telephone service," said Adam Thrasher, Sierra Vista Deputy Police Chief.
If you're interested in registering, go to www.SierraVistaAZ.gov.
Those who register will be asked to provide their name, address, primary and secondary numbers and email addresses. After entering a home address, a map on the site will show the geographic location that should match your address. If the location is inaccurate, simply use your mouse to move the map pin and update your location.
Information entered on the site is kept confidential and will only be used to share emergency information. During an emergency, only residents living in the affected area will be notified by the system.
The database is updated by the provider every Monday, so residents are urged not to wait for an emergency to enter their phone number into the system.
