TUCSON - Winter storm on the way to wrap up 2012 and ring in the New Year.

Tucson saw a short term warm up today as temperatures returned to the mid 60s for daytime highs. According to Meteorologist John Patrick, a winter storm will bring some changes starting Sunday with an increase in clouds and wind gusts to 25-30mph.

Valley rain and mountain snow expected to start Sunday night into Monday with best chance falling between midnight and noon New Year's Eve. Valley locations should see between 0.10-0.25" of rain while elevations above 5000 feet could pick 3-6" of fresh snow.

Showers are expected to taper off through the afternoon hours on Monday with New Year's Eve celebrations looking dry. However, in the wake of this system temperatures will remain well below average. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will stay in the low 50s and we'll wake up to freezing temperatures across Southern Arizona to start 2013.
