TUCSON - Tucson Police Department has released the identities and more information on over a dozen people arrested during a round-up of larceny suspects conducted earlier this month - mostly for misdemeanor shoplifting charges.
Reports of minor theft incidents rose 286 percent in 2010, from 1,638 reported cases in 2009 to 6,324 cases in the next year. As a result, TPD's Property Crimes Division developed a work group to research the issue and work to reduce the overall number of larcenies, according to a release from the department.
On the afternoon of May 10, TPD personnel assigned to a suspect round-up operation made 17 arrests, clearing about $11,000 in outstanding bonds. Arrests were split fairly equally beween men and women, the release states, with the majority being charged with misdemeanor shoplifting.
