TUCSON - Desert Sky Middle School in Rita Ranch was on lockdown Wednesday while police investigated a nearby shooting.
A resident in the 9800 block of East Bainbridge Street-- near East Rita and South Houghton roads-- called 911 when a juvenile who was bleeding from his head approached him and said he'd been shot. The resident was in the front yard when the juvenile walked up to him, Tucson Police spokesman Agt. Chris Widmer said.
A statement on the Desert Sky website confirmed the school was put on a "preventative lockdown."
"As of 11:30 a.m. today, TPD contacted us about activity in the neighborhood. Desert Sky Middle School has been placed on a preventative lockdown. All students are safe. Please continue to check this site for further updates," the statement said.
Widmer said later that a juvenile had fired the gun and was in custody. The gun was recovered. Details on charges weren't immediately available.
Widmer said the man sustained non-life threatening injuries and is expected to survive.
