Sex crime suspect arrested in Wa., turns himself in to Tucson authorities

TUCSON - A 26-year-old man has turned himself into local authorities after being arrested for allegedly molesting a teenaged family member.

On March 10, 2012, the Pima County Sheriff's Department received a report of a possible Child Molestation, according to a news release. The PCSD Crimes Against Children Unit learned that the suspect, 26-year-old Jacob V. Benson, had allegedly sexually violated a teenage family member over the course of several months.

Detectives also learned that Benson had spent time with the victim in his hometown of Carnation, Washington, and that Benson still had ties to that area, the release states. Sheriff's detectives tried to contact the suspect in Washington via telephone, but he did not return their phone calls.

An arrest warrant was obtained on charges of Attempted Sexual Assault, and the King County Sheriff's Office in Washington assisted PCSD by apprehending Benson during a sex offender round-up operation on June 30, 2012, the release states.

According to PCSD, Benson subsequently posted bond in Washington, returned to Tucson and turned himself into authorities on June 17.
