TUCSON - An elevated severe weather threat for the western deserts the next 12 hours.
An area of low pressure triggers scattered showers and a few thunderstorms across Metro Tucson today, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Activity will be stronger west of Tucson, with the potential for a few severe storms in central and western Pima County. Damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall are the primary threats for the communities of Sells and Ajo.
Expect scattered showers late morning through the afternoon hours. High temperatures today run as much as 10° below average. Showers taper off by this evening.
Dry air shuts down storm chances heading into the weekend with temperatures returning to the mid to upper 90's. Monsoon moisture returns next week, bringing a slight chance of isolated storms.
