TUCSON - Several fire departments around Southern Arizona have already been dispatched to assist in the wildfires in Colorado, and more personnel are expected to join in the effort.
Four firefighters from the Golder Ranch Fire District are in Colorado now, along with a truck specialized in fighting brush fires. They are fighting the Weber Fire, which was sparked on Friday, June 22, near Mancos, Colorado.
Two firefighters from the Tubac Fire District are working on fire management teams at the Waldo Canyon Fire near Colorado Springs.
The Waldo Canyon Fire has grown to about 15,324 acres and has already forced the evacuation of some 30,000 Colorado residents since it started on June 23.
The Ironwood Hotshots, a 20-man hotshot crew from the Northwest Fire District, will head to the Waldo Canyon Fire on Friday. They are currently on a mandatory rest after their last assignment. Two other Northwest Fire Department personnel are working as fire management commanders.
