U. S. Senator John McCain is in Southern Arizona today, continuing the push for the new F-35 fighter jet to come to Tucson.
He arrived at the 162nd fighter wing at Tucson's International Airport around 1:00p.m. McCain said he is confident the F-35 contract will be awarded to Arizona over Boise, Idaho. There are two locations in Arizona up for consideration: the Arizona National Guard base at Tucson International Airport and Luke Air Force Base outside of Phoenix. McCain said community support and great weather may help to tip the scales in Arizona's direction.
McCain also discussed the on-going war in Afghanistan. The White House announced this morning the President now has enough information to make a decision on whether to send more troops overseas. McCain said, "I hope the President will do the right thing." McCain has been a vocal supporter of sending more troops to Afghanistan.
