AJO, Ariz. (AP) - U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will be with U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona to assess the progress of homeland security projects at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument on the Mexican border.
"The reality of it is we have an immigration system thats very broken, and that includes our broken borders," said Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar.
The Arizona Democrat and Salazar will be joined on Saturday's trip by Interior Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife and Parks Tom Strickland, National Park Service Director John Jarvis and U.S. Deputy Chief Border Patrol Agent Robert Boatright.
"There are probably more deaths in this area of people trying to cross than there were the same time last year. Which given the time of the year and the bad weather thats upon us, so thats disturbing," said Congressman Raul Grijalva.
Following the inspection tour, Salazar, Grijalva and Boatright will hold a news conference at the Ajo Municipal Airport to talk about the homeland security projects.
Federal authorities are trying to slow the flow of cash and guns that are fueling the raging drug wars in Mexico.
