Search efforts resume at Sabino Canyon for missing hiker

SABINO CANYON - News Four Tucson can now identify the 70-year-old man who's been missing since yesterday afternoon.

His name is Florencio Gallego, and his family alerted the authorities after Gallego failed to return from a hike at Sabino Canyon.

The Pima County Sheriff's Office confirmed to News Four that the 70-year-old man is an experienced hiker, and left before sunrise yesterday.

He called his family about 11:30 a.m. and was expected to be back by 2 p.m.

Deputies say the man was hiking to 7 Falls and his family believes they know what trail he is on.

PCSO spokesperson, Rene Carslon spoke to News Four about today's rescue efforts and said about 40 people will be out searching along with search dogs, and air support.
