TUCSON - A tropical atmosphere over the desert southwest today.
Ample Monsoon moisture should lead to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon & evening, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. The storm timeframe today looks to be late morning through 10 PM, tapering off overnight. Some storms will be capable of locally heavy rainfall. For that reason, today's Monsoon Prediction Index is at 6 out of 10.
Highs today top out in the upper 80's across the Tucson metro, which is almost 10 degrees below average.
This weekend features scattered afternoon and evening storms as high pressure over Las Vegas keeps Monsoon moisture in place. Between now and Sunday, some portions of southern Arizona may see up to 1.25" rain.
High pressure sets up over southeastern Arizona for the upcoming work week, drying out the atmosphere some and bringing back typical August temps. Look for isolated storms starting Monday with daytime highs in the upper 90's.
