TUCSON - The best chance of Monsoon storms over the next 7 days starts this afternoon.
High pressure over southwest Utah drives scattered storms off the Mogollon Rim today, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. These storms should make it into the valley floors anytime after 2 PM, with some storms lingering into the nighttime hours. High temps peak in the 100's today before the thunder makes it into the Tucson metro.
Today's Monsoon Prediction Index is at a 5 out of 10, meaning a moderate risk for storms to develop gusty winds over 40 MPH and locally heavy rainfall.
The set-up remains the same tomorrow with storms developing on the Rim and pushing into the lower elevations. Drier air starts filtering in from the east by late week, decreasing storm chances. Isolated hit & miss storms are expected Thursday through the weekend with high temps in the 100's.
