Sandy Rathbun grew up in Yuma, Arizona and got interested in journalism in high school. She says, "I'll never forget the day my English teacher asked me to work on Kofa High School's student newspaper. From that moment I was hooked."
Sandy graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in newspaper journalism. Then she says, "On the same day I got two job offers, one in print and the other in TV. I chose TV because I liked the immediacy. And the rest is history."
Sandy's devoted most of her career to reporting the news in Tucson where she's worked as a newsroom manager, anchor and reporter. She started at KOLD TV, then moved to KVOA in 1986.
Sandy's won numerous national and local awards.
Over the years she's interviewed Presidents and murderers. She did some of the country's first news stories on AIDS and on sexual molestation of children. She's even taught journalism classes at the UA.
She says, "What I love about news is everyday's different."
