San Tan Valley teacher cited after teaching class while drunk

SUN TAN VALLEY, Ariz.- A math teacher at Poston Butte High School was cited after teaching her class while drunk on Wednesday.

According to Pinal County Sheriff's Office spokesman Pat Ramirez, a student in 57-year-old Kathleen Jardine's class called the main office at the school and reported Jardine was intoxicated and yelling at students.

Jardine admitted to drinking the night before, in the morning, and during lunch in her classroom, Ramirez said. When deputies administered a Breathalyzer test, she blew a .205.

A school resource officer found a bottle of vodka, wine and Sunny D inside her classroom, Ramirez said.

According to Ramirez, Jardine could face charges for Disorderly Conduct due to her yelling and cursing at students in her class.

Deputies say this is not the first time Jardine has shown up to teach a class drunk. When she was a teacher at Belen High School in New Mexico, she was fired for showing up to class drunk in 2011.
