A 30-year-old San Luis, Arizona man was arrested Friday on charges of trying to smuggle more than 22 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.
Customs and Border Protection officers referred the driver for an inspection of his Jeep SUV. A narcotics detection canine alerted officers to 20 packages of crystal meth in the vehicle's spare tire. The drugs, worth nearly $67,000, and vehicle were seized. The subject was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
Individuals arrested may be charged by complaint, the method by which a person is charged with criminal activity, which raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent unless and until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
