Safeway's free cupcake day supports people with disabilities

TUCSON - Safeway Inc.'s yearly Support for People with Disabilities fundraising campaign to benefit Easter Seals, Special Olympics and organizations that assist those with disabilities begins on March 29.

To start off the month-long campaign, which is until April 30, Safeway is giving away free cupcakes to their customers. As part of Cupcakes for the Cause, free cupcakes will be offered to customers on March 30th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all Safeway locations in Arizona.

When customers enter any Safeway location in Arizona from March 29 throughout April 30, they have the opportunity to donate at the register to support the campaign.

Customers are asked to donate $1 at checkout, if they donate $5 or more they will get a free ticket to get into the Maricopa County Fair which is from April 10-14 at the State Fair Grounds in Phoenix.

Last year in Arizona the campaign raised $645,000.

Every year Safeway devotes the month of April to raise funds helping bring awareness to the needs of people with disabilities. Since the beginning of this outreach, Safeway had raised and donated more than $130 million.

"We are honored to be supporting Easter Seals Southwest Human Development, Easter Seals Blake Foundation, Special Olympics Arizona, Treasure House and other non-profit organizations," said Dan Valenzuela, President of Safeway in Arizona.

In that case, on April 27th, Safeway employees and volunteers will join Rebuilding Together "project managers" to remodel The Children's Center for Neurodevelopment Studies at 5430 W. Glenn Drive, Glendale, AZ 85301.
