TUCSON - The Ronald Young trial continues Tuesday, as more witnesses take the stand. Young is accused of killing Tucson businessman Gary Triano in 1996. Detectives say Triano's ex-wife, Pamela Phillips, hired Young to kill Triano so she could cash-in on his life insurance policy.
One of Tuesday's witnesses described the professional and romantic relationship between Young and Phillips. The witness, Kevin McDonald, spent time living with Philips in her Aspen home before the murder, caring for the children Philips and Triano had together. Philips and Triano had already split at the time, and the witness met Triano on occasion when Triano came to pick the children up from Philips' home. He told the jury when he heard about Triano's murder on the news, he called Philips and she was "genuinely shocked, but calm" and that she did not cry during their 15 to 20 minute phone call. The witness also told the jury that when he went back to Aspen after Triano's death, Philips had moved into a more expensive home.
More witnesses will take the stand this afternoon.
