Reward offered for officer-involved-shooting information

TUCSON-SWAT teams were searching the area near Broadway and Alvernon for a suspect who shot a Tucson police officer.

Sergeant Robert Carpenter is in the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the head.

The whole area was surrounded by SWAT, canines, police and a helicopter above.

It was a very tense situation after a police was shot and the suspect fled.

As SWAT searched the area door-to-door, residents were asked to stay inside.

U.S. Marshals and ATF were assisting police with the investigation.

They were looking for a suspect that shot police Sergeant Robert Carpenter in the head when Carpenter was responding to a forced entry call.

It was just hours after another forced entry call from the same address on the 4000 block of East Elmwood.

Police do not know if the same suspect was involved in both forced entries or if there are others who may be connected.

"It's a quiet neighborhood. This is the biggest thing that's probably happened here since I've lived there," said Eugene Stout, who lives in the neighborhood.

For now police are looking for a Hispanic man around 5 feet 8 inches between 20 to 30 years of age, 160 pounds wearing a dark blue jersey with Number 43.

He may have arrived at the home on a bicycle and may have been wearing a baseball-style hat.

Police are urging anyone with information about the identity of whereabouts of the suspect to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.

A monetary reward is being offered via 88-CRIME for information leading to an arrest.
