REVELSTOKE, British Columbia (AP) - Police in Canada say they now believe almost all of the snowmobilers caught in an avalanche yesterday made it to safety.
Of the 200 or so people who were on Boulder Mountain at the time, most apparently got away on their own.
Two are confirmed dead and 30 were hurt, including one person in critical condition. Three others are in serious condition and 19 were treated at a hospital and released.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say after a canvass of hotel rooms in the area, they're optimistic that no one is missing. But they say the rescue operation won't end until they're certain no one is buried in the snow.
Police say many of the snowmobilers were equipped with avalanche recovery equipment and were able to rescue themselves.
They were taking part in an annual, unsanctioned gathering of people who enjoy snowmobiling in the deep snow of backcountry British Columbia.
The area had been under an avalanche warning.
