TUCSON - A kind hearted young man watched his best friend fight cancer for the past seven years and when other life challenges came his way he decided to help him out.
"His family has been through so much hardship because of this disease. His father lost his job because of the time he took off to take his son to treatments," 911 Collision Centers owner Michael Quinn reads the letter from Arturo Lopez.
It was a letter about a young man battling Leukemia that touched Quinn.
"I know a grand gesture like restoring his car would go a long way in helping him on his road to recovery and most definitely lift his spirits up. Thank you for your time Arturo Lopez," reads Quinn.
With that Rescue My Ride was established. The team at the shop worked tirelessly for three weeks to fix Michael Moralez's car.
The car helped him escape the pain of dealing with cancer. "When I was down I didn't have something to keep my mind off of things... I would just get in the car and drive off," said Moralez.
After a fender bender the car was in bad shape. "I just thought it was simple fix, it would have been fine with me. After I saw it I just didn't know what to say it was like a dream come true," said Lopez.
The team fixed Moralez's fender, replaced all 4 wheels, recovered the seats and repainted the whole car; repairs that would have cost him several thousand dollars.
"There's still good people out there that are willing to help just sometimes you have to look for it," said Moralez.
Quinn knows how hard it is to watch a loved one battle the disease. His son had cancer as well and his only hope was to lift Moralez's spirits.
"We'll keep Michael in our prayers. We wish the best for him and his family it makes me feel great," said Quinn.
