TUCSON - You wouldn't want your most personal health information out there for the world to see. But, that's what happened at a pharmacy drive-thru.
A customer received with the wrong medicine, and with someone else's very private health information and address on the label.
It happened at the Walgreens at First Avenue and River Road in Tucson.
Bob Richardson had gone there late one afternoon to pick-up a prescription his dermatologist had ordered for him. He told the News 4 Tucson Investigators, "A few minutes later this woman comes over and said 'well you picked it up this morning at 11:02. I went 'no I didn't.' Yes you did. No, I really didn't, I was in Phoenix."
Richardson says he tried repeatedly to get the pharmacy to believe him. He adds, "she was actually kind of accusing me of trying to double-up on the prescription, I guess."
An hour later, the pharmacy called Richardson to say they'd checked their surveillance video, and discovered he was not the person who earlier had picked-up the prescription. They offered him a new prescription and offered to waive his $6.00 co-pay.
Even after repeated requests, the News 4 Tucson Investigators have yet to hear a response from Walgreens about this incident.
But Richardson says the manager told him there was a mix-up over patients' first names, both of them 'Robert.'
Richardson tells the News 4 Tucson Investigators, the manager told him mix-ups like this happen every so often.
Richardson has filed a complaint with the Arizona Board of Pharmacy over this episode. He says he doesn't want to see this happen to anyone else.
"As far as I'm concerned it's just a huge breach of privacy, of trust, of confidence. how can you do this," Richardson says.
The News 4 Tucson Investigators will continue to press Walgreens for a response.
