History was made in U of A's season opening 58-13 victory over UNLV: For the first time in the Pac-10/12 era, a freshman quarterback started for the Wildcats. Anu Solomon, a redshirt who suited up as a prep in Las Vegas, stunned his former hometown team UNLV, passing for 425 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions.
Samajie Grant and Austin Hill both had stellar games as well, recording over 100 receiving yards and a touchdown apiece.
Another question for the Wildcats heading into the 2014 season - Who would fill the shoes for the departing runningback All American Ka'Deem Carey? The question was answered with an exclamation point! Terris Jones-Grigsby rushed for 124 yards, averaging 9 yards a carry, and Nick Wilson had 104 yards, for a 14 yards per carry clip!
It's still hard to judge just -how- good Arizona will be this year until the Wildcats dip into Pac-12 play. It should be noted, though, that UNLV actually made it to a bowl game last season.
Friday night's game didn't end until around 11:15 p.m. so Tucson-area stations were not allowed to air highlights in the 10 p.m. newscast. KVOA News 4 Tucson's Richie Melby will have a complete wrap of the game at 5:30 and 10 p.m.
