(NBC) - Gorillas at the Philadelphia zoo celebrated a special event today that included a tasty treat.
Jabari, a silverback western lowland gorilla celebrated his 27th birthday Thursday as school children sang "Happy Birthday" to him.
The primate received a special birthday cake and some colorful presents.
Another silverback western gorilla, Nne also celebrated her 24th birthday. She was presented with her own birthday cake and goodies.
The birthday cakes were made of primate chow with vanilla yogurt and peanut butter icing. They also contained tomatoes, grapes, sweet potatoes, lettuce and carrots for candles.
Nne's official birthday was Wednesday and Jabari's official birthday is Sunday.
The western gorilla is listed as critically endangered in the wild due to poaching and disease.
The population has declined by more than 60 percent over the last quarter century.
